Keeping Israel Strong

Miami and Israel may be nearly 7,000 miles apart on a map, but the two communities share a connection that transcends distance. In fact, Miami leads the nation in both the number of households with someone who has visited our homeland and the number of people who experience a meaningful, emotional attachment to Israel.* Through funding programs and agencies that are on the ground, connecting people to people, Federation is strengthening Israel. Our work includes:

  • Women’s Amutot Initiative
Established in 2003 to focus exclusively on the needs and welfare of women and girls in Israel, these annual grants are allocated to Israeli not-for-profit organizations (amutot) that provide programs and services for women and girls focusing on economic and societal empowerment, integration and equality, protection against and prevention of violence and leadership development. • Combating Hunger
Nearly one out of every four Israelis goes to bed hungry each night. Federation supports several programs that provide hot meals, food packages and other resources to thousands of Israelis, including children, single-parent families, the elderly, Holocaust Survivors and the unemployed. • Promoting Religious Diversity
Federation promotes religious diversity in Israel through programs that encourage respect and legal equality for Jews of all backgrounds and all levels of observance. Click here to read more.
  • Helping Children With Special Needs
Thanks to Federation’s support of the not-for-profit organization Beit Issie Shapiro, thousands of children with special needs benefit from services, the latest research and a more tolerant and inclusive community. Click here to read more.
  • Strengthening the Negev
Federation has joined with other Jewish Federations to help support the development of the Negev region through the Negev Funding Coalition. Its mission is to transform this vast desert into a creative and vital place to live. Click here to read more.
  • Assisting Ethiopian-Israelis
Through the Ethiopian-Israeli Initiative, Federation supports programs that provide the community with academic help, legal counsel and employment opportunities, bridging the gap in social, educational and cultural acclimation. Click here to read more.
