JCRC Shines a Light on Antisemitism
This past Wednesday, 25 leaders from Miami-Dade's Black and Jewish communities convened at Base Miami for the kickoff to the Jewish Community Relations Council’s (JCRC) #ShineaLight on Antisemitism and Racism Campaign, part of a nationwide initiative. The participants took a deep dive into the challenges each of our communities face, shared their perspectives on racism and antisemitism and discussed what they love most about their identity. Among the group were David Oxios and Marvin Weeks, artists from each community that JCRC commissioned during Art Basel. They will create a collaborative piece of art that incorporates key themes from the conversation and illustrates that our commonalities are much greater than our differences. Oxios and Weeks will work together over the next couple of months with an eye toward unveiling the art during a large community event in early 2022. “This was a wonderful evening, filled with important conversation that will hopefully lead to a stronger understanding between our communities,” said Mojdeh Khaghan Danial, JCRC’s Chair. “We hope that this is a catalyst for future partnerships as we continue to highlight what unites, rather than divides us.” More details about the initiative will follow in the weeks to come.
