Expanded Critical Care Grants for Diverse Populations of Older Adults

The Greater Miami Jewish Federation has received $400,000 for the care of Holocaust Survivors and other aging community members who have suffered trauma. A total of $5.4 million over two years was awarded to eight Jewish Federations by the Center on Holocaust Survivors and Institute on Aging and Trauma at the Jewish Federations of North America (JFNA) to support the work of local Jewish and non-Jewish agencies that deliver social services to Holocaust Survivors and other adults with a history of trauma. In addition to Survivors, Federation’s most recently awarded grants support a diverse population of older adults including Haitian, Hispanic and other immigrants and members of the LGBTQ+ community by providing a range of enrichment programs addressing their physical, mental and emotional health, along with educational and cultural enrichment, legal aid, health and wellness workshops, and recreational and socialization activities to combat loneliness and isolation. Since JFNA launched its Holocaust Survivor Care Initiative in 2015, together Jewish Federations have supported approximately 35,000 Holocaust Survivors, 16,000 professional caregivers, 6,000 family caregivers and 5,000 older adults with a history of trauma.
