Expanded Critical Care Supports Grants Will Assist Aging Immigrant Population2. Expanded Critical Care Supports Grants Will Assist Aging Immigrant Population

The Greater Miami Jewish Federation awarded $150,000 to 11 local organizations with initiatives supporting older adults, especially those who have experienced trauma. This is the third consecutive year Federation has been awarded a Critical Care Supports Grant to distribute locally to care for Holocaust Survivors using Person-Centered Trauma-Informed Care (PCTI), a holistic approach to caring for the elderly that supports their dignity and strength and helps them remain independent. This year, the expanded program will also focus on the unique issues faced by aging immigrants in Miami. Projects include Creole-speaking support groups for individuals with dementia and their caregivers; legal assistance, advocacy and outreach for older adults navigating the immigration system; in-home entertainment and care via community volunteers for Russian Holocaust Survivors in Sunny Isles Beach and quality-of-life services such as nutritious meals, health and wellness workshops, socialization opportunities and more for Hispanic immigrants. The Jewish Federations of North America (JFNA) in conjunction with the U.S. Administration for Community Living are supporting these efforts.
