Statement on Antisemitic Violence in North America

The Greater Miami Jewish Federation, our Jewish Community Relations Council (JCRC), and the Rabbinical Association of Greater Miami (RAGM) are horrified and outraged by the wave of antisemitic violence targeting Jewish communities across North America in recent days.

  • A terror attack on a synagogue in West Bloomfield, Michigan, included an active shooter and a car packed with explosives ramming into the building.
  • Two Israelis were viciously assaulted at a restaurant in San Jose, California, simply for speaking Hebrew in public.
  • In Toronto, two synagogues were struck by gunfire on Shabbat — the latest in a disturbing pattern of attacks in the Toronto metro area against Jewish institutions. We are grateful that no one was physically harmed.

Enough is enough.

These incidents are a stark reminder of the growing threat posed by rising antisemitism in this country and around the world. They underscore the very real dangers facing the Jewish people today. We are fortunate that the only death reported in these incidents was that of the terrorist in Michigan.

Silence in the face of hate is not an option.

We call on all people of goodwill to speak out against antisemitism wherever it appears.

We call on our community partners and elected officials to condemn antisemitism clearly and unequivocally — especially when it emerges within their own circles.

And we call on our partners in government to continue strengthening the resources that help keep Jewish communities safe, including sustained funding for nonprofit security. The safety of our institutions cannot be taken for granted.

Our Office of Community Security remains in close contact with law enforcement. At this time, there are no indications of increased threats to Jewish institutions in South Florida. We will continue to closely monitor the situation and share updates as needed.

Hate has no place in our society. We remain committed — alongside our partners and neighbors — to building a community where antisemitism and all forms of hatred are confronted and defeated.
