ELEVATE South Dade Engages New Generation of Jewish Leaders

Federation's new program, Elevate South Dade Emerging Leaders, is helping the next generation of Jewish leaders and activists find their voice in the South Dade community. The initiative is a partnership between the South Dade Branch of Federation and the Elevate Leadership Department, in conjunction with local Jewish institutions. The 26 members of the inaugural cohort, all of whom are under 45 years of age, were recruited based on recommendations from synagogues, the Dave and Mary Alper Jewish Community Center and Federation. Many of them have already assumed key leadership roles in the community.

“Our goal is to influence a new generation of emerging leaders, helping them assume roles that reflect their interests and priorities in the Jewish community,” explained Regina Zelonker, Chair of Elevate Leadership. “I am proud that our Federation and the Jewish community are investing in the next generation and South Dade by taking proactive steps to ensure a strong and vibrant Jewish future.”

The program’s learning sessions are enriched by formal and informal conversations with high-level leaders who are eager to share their knowledge and experience and excited to see a new generation of dedicated community members.

Brad Sokol, Vice Chair of Federation’s South Dade Branch, said, “It is quite a unique experience for our young leaders to have the opportunity to learn from some of the most experienced Jewish community leaders. Watching these two generations interact in such meaningful conversations has been the most rewarding and inspiring part of the training to date.”

Aside from leadership learning, the program also incorporates hands-on volunteerism and social elements. Federation plans to offer the Elevate South Dade program once every two years, interspersed with other Elevate Leadership courses targeted to promote activism and involvement within various segments of Miami’s diverse Jewish population.
