Miami Grandparents and Their Grandchildren Team Up For G2: Global Intergenerational Initiative
Your Miami Jewish community is participating in the G2: Global Intergenerational Initiative with Federation’s Israeli partnership city of Yerucham. Recognizing that grandparents play an important role in solidifying the Jewish legacy, the innovative year-long program pairs grandparents with their pre-teen (5th-8th grade) grandchildren to explore family narratives, meaningful connections and Judaic traditions. The experience is organized by Federation’s overseas partner, The Jewish Agency, and its Partnership 2gether initiative. Miami and Yerucham are part of the first cohort of this pilot program, which includes three other pairs of Partnership 2gether communities. All eight cities are running their programs simultaneously.
The local G2 group held their first meeting this past February and will continue to meet for monthly sessions facilitated by Temple Beth Sholom, a Federation-affiliated synagogue, with curriculum centered on Jewish values. The program culminates in December with an intergenerational Global Israel Experience. The Miami pairs will be traveling to Israel to meet the Yerucham participants and the other six American groups. Together, they will spend an incredible week discovering the country, exploring Jewish adulthood and volunteering as one global Jewish family.
