Helping Vulnerable Israelis Through the Pandemic
Federation overseas partner The Jewish Agency for Israel is helping the most vulnerable older adults in Israel cope with the pandemic. Residents of Amigour, a housing community supported by The Jewish Agency, are receiving food, other necessities and emotional support. For Etya Papugayev, the help has been a lifeline. Born in Lithuania in 1931, Etya was her family’s sole survivor of the Holocaust. Like so many, the 89-year-old Survivor is at high risk of contracting the coronavirus. The Jewish Agency has stepped in to ensure these elderly Israelis are cared for and comforted during the pandemic. Through The Jewish Agency's Emergency Loan Fund for Non-Profits, Federation has also been able to assist critical Israeli organizations during these historic times.
