Inclusion Grants Provide Funding for People With Special Needs

Thanks to a grant from Federation's Miami Jewish Abilities Alliance (JAA), the Michael-Ann Russell Jewish Community Center (MARJCC) has been able to provide Jewish programming for a group of teens and young adults with special needs. Created in February for individuals ages 15-38 who have “aged out” of other programs, MARJCC’s Yedidut offers an opportunity to socialize, join in fitness activities, celebrate Jewish holidays and build their Jewish identities. The group meets two evenings a month and participants say the program has fostered friendships and given them something to look forward to, in a comfortable setting “where they can talk about anything.” JAA grants fund inclusion projects in Miami, and invite Jewish organizations, synagogues and schools to apply for funding to kick start inclusion initiatives that offer individuals with disabilities access to Jewish life and community.
