News From the Greater Miami Jewish Federation

A 2021 Federation Jewish Incubator Grants is helping preschoolers learn about prayer and Jewish text in an engaging and accessible way. Through Words From Our Hearts: A Prayer Exploration for Early Childhood, a collaboration between Federation subsidiary agency the Center for the Advancement of Jewish Education (CAJE) and Torahtron, a local Jewish educational theater, children, families and teachers will explore prayer concepts and develop their own avenues of spiritual expression.

Remember the 6 million Jews who were murdered during the Shoah and honor the brave Survivors on International Holocaust Remembrance Day, Wednesday, January 27.

Every month, nearly 20,000 children across Russia and Ukraine experience the joy and love of learning when a special envelope arrives in the mail just for them: their PJ Library book.

Thanks to a partnership with Mt. Sinai Medical Center, Miami’s treasured Holocaust Survivors have begun to be vaccinated for COVID-19. The crisis has impacted everyone, but for aging Survivors, who began their lives amidst unimaginable horror, the pandemic poses special psychological, emotional and health concerns.

Are you a Lion of Judah donor or want to become one? While we can't gather in person this year, women from around the world who give a minimum of $5,000 annually to Federation will still come together virtually at the International Lion of Judah Conference January 24-25.

The moment to make a difference is now. With this in mind, Federation Women’s Impact Initiative awarded $70,000 grants to 14 organizations in Miami that help transform the lives of women and girls.

Federation believes Jewish overnight camp is a formative experience and one every child should have.

According to Feeding South Florida, the demand for food has doubled during the pandemic in South Florida counties, including Miami-Dade.

The Jewish Federations of North America has awarded Federation an additional two years of funding to continue the critical support work of caring for Holocaust Survivors.

What does tikkun olam (repairing the world) look like? How about 2,000 toys in the hands of happy children; 1,560 snacks filling hungry bellies; 700 bouquets of flowers adorning a once-empty table and 350 cards offering cheer to those who need it most?

How can we personally become supportive to those suffering from this pandemic? Bikur Cholim is the answer.

Miami’s changemakers recently received some added support through Federation Jewish Incubator Grants. The program, now in its eighth year, awarded $70,000 to 17 organizations that make a difference in Miami.
