ITC Supports Ukrainian Refugees with Wartime Trauma
The Israel Trauma Coalition (ITC), a Federation overseas partner helping individuals, families and communities cope with emergency situations, is using their expertise to help the Ukrainian population face the horrors of war. The nonprofit has been in the war-torn country since 2014 and as a result, is a well-integrated and trusted partner in the community. Today, the organization’s trauma-informed personnel are deployed throughout European countries overwhelmed with more than 4 million Ukrainian refugees, assisting first responders — firefighters, medics, nurses, police, etc. — in establishing a culture of shared responsibility and readiness. Thus far, ITC has provided preparedness and resilience training for more than 2,500 therapists in Ukraine. They are also guiding Ukrainian teachers on how to support millions of local children experiencing the shock and trauma of war. ITC will also begin conducting courses at Western Ukrainian National University on working with people who have suffered psychological injuries during war. In addition to an annual allocation from the Greater Miami Jewish Federation/UJA Campaign, ITC also receives funding through our Ukraine Emergency Fund.
