Federation Helps Feed Our Community
Every two weeks, the Greater Miami Jewish Federation is reminded that food is more than just sustenance. It’s community, tradition and ritual. It’s the kosher meat and challah that allow a family to celebrate Shabbat with dignity, despite a strained bank account. Yesterday, Federation’s Kosher Food Distribution Drive-Thru helped 1,400 individuals, many of whom have come to rely on the bi-monthly events as a way to fill their fridge and pantry with kosher food items, including fresh produce, non-perishables, meat and even challah. The food distribution was generously underwritten by the Richard and Karen LeFrak Charitable Foundation. Partners include Federation’s Jewish Volunteer Center, our primary human service agency Jewish Community Services of South Florida, Repair the World Miami, Farm Share and Miami-Dade County. Our next Kosher Food Distribution Drive-Thru will take place Thursday, February 18 at the Alper JCC Miami, 11155 SW 112th Avenue, Miami.
