Mazal Tov to the Miami Jewish Film Festival for Winning a Knight Arts Challenge

Mazal Tov to the Miami Jewish Film Festival (MJFF) for being selected as a winner of the prestigious Knight Arts Challenge. The Knight Foundation awarded MJFF $25,000 to support its specially curated program celebrating Yiddish silent cinema at next year’s festival. The grant recognizes Miami's best ideas for engaging and enriching the greater community through the arts. MJFF is a program of Federation subsidiary the Center for the Advancement of Jewish Education (CAJE).

Next year’s program will showcase discovered and restored Yiddish silent films, in addition to commissioning local musicians to create original film scores that will be performed live at venues across Miami. “We are so grateful and humbled by the generosity and recognition from the Knight Foundation to the Miami Jewish Film Festival,” said Barbara Black Goldfarb, MJFF Chair. “This grant allows us to expand our programming, further benefiting Miami’s Jewish community.”

Established in 1996, MJFF has grown to be one of the three largest and most respected Jewish film festivals in the world. “The Knight Arts Challenge prize is an honor we share with all of our film lovers and supporters and everyone who has championed our Festival,” said Festival Director Igor Shteyrenberg. This is a moment that has been 23 years in the making and we can’t wait to incorporate and celebrate Yiddish silent cinema at next year’s MJFF, alongside some of Miami’s most accomplished artists.”
