Young Jews Find Community at Moishe House Residences
Calling all young adults: Moishe House Miami-Aventura is looking for residents! Moishe House Miami-Aventura is looking for residents! Moishe House welcomes three to five young Jews (typically young professionals or graduate students) who are provided with a rent subsidy, a Jewish library and a programming budget in exchange for hosting at least 70 programs each year focused on creating a strong Jewish community. Thanks to the generous long-term support of the Greater Miami Jewish Federation and the Emanuel J. Friedman Philanthropies, Moishe House continues to thrive as a critical hub of Jewish life for young adults in Miami with locations in Midtown and Aventura. Jewish young adults are able to engage with their peers through diverse programs that connect them to Jewish culture, heritage and traditions. Activities range from Shabbat dinners to holiday celebrations to service projects and much more. In 2016, Moishe House Miami provided 155 programs to 1,325 unique participants, and the Moishe House fellows are on track to surpass these numbers this year. Through June 2017, the two houses have already hosted 87 programs, 32 of which were in partnership with another local organization, engaging 714 unique participants.
Moishe House Miami is the result of a year-long planning process by the Jewish Engagement Commission, a Federation initiative to engage more Jews from different backgrounds. To fill the need for programming and available services, the Commission recommended the launch of a Moishe House in this community. Since opening in late September 2011, Moishe House has reached more than 7,700 young adults through 582 programs.
