Israeli Partner Organization Helps Create Multi-Sensory Environment at Miami Children’s Museum
Children with disabilities who visit the Miami Children’s Museum can enjoy a special multi-sensory environment, thanks to a collaboration between the museum and Israel’s Beit Issie Shapiro (BIS), a nonprofit focused on special needs children and their families. The museum's Snoezelen Room, created with help from BIS, presents visuals in reduced, comfortable lighting to help children with autism, sensory processing disorders and other special needs engage with the displays. On the second Saturday of every month, the museum limits admission and provides sensory-friendly programming, including special stage performances, modified adjustments to regular exhibits, family networking and guest speakers. Beit Issie Shapiro is a Federation partner agency.
