Program to Help Senior Adults From Diverse Backgrounds
Studies have shown that more than 90% of all adults have experienced trauma by the time they reach their senior years. To help Federation continue to provide a safety net of social services for the most vulnerable people in our community, a new program will focus on the unique issues faced by immigrants in Miami as they age. Funded by The Jewish Federations of North America, the initiative will build on Federation’s experience using Person-Centered Trauma-Informed (PCTI) care to work with Holocaust Survivors. The expanded Critical Care Program will address the needs of older adults from immigrant communities, especially those who have survived past traumas, as they navigate housing, food insecurity, healthcare access, social isolation and more. With the goal of gaining a better understanding of the complex concerns of this population, Federation is hosting focus groups on Zoom for community leaders to interact and brainstorm on best practices, Thursday, March 11 from 1-2:30 p.m. or Friday, March 12 from 10:30 a.m.-noon.
