Federation Overseas Partners Helping Jewish Refugees in Ukraine Make Aliyah
In the days since Russia’s unprovoked attack on Ukraine, our overseas partner The Jewish Agency for Israel has dramatically increased its efforts to help those in peril reach safety. Courageous staff and volunteers on the ground have already assisted 700 Ukrainian Jews at processing centers at the borders of Poland, Moldova, Romania and Hungary and are preparing them for aliyah (immigration) to Israel. The organization’s emergency hotline, operating in Hebrew, Ukranian and Russian, has received more than 10,000 inquiries, half of which have been aliyah inquiries. In a complex operation handled by The Jewish Agency, the first group of refugees (pictured above) crossed the border into Poland last week. This Sunday, more than 300 olim (immigrants) fleeing Ukraine, including 100 orphans, will arrive in Israel.
