JFNA Responds to Severe Ukrainian Winter
Reacting to forecasts of a bitter winter and extensive power outages in war-torn Ukraine, The Jewish Federations of North America (JFNA) — including the Greater Miami Jewish Federation — are allocating $7 million in emergency relief funds to support 22,000 Ukrainian Jews. The money will be distributed to Federation’s longtime overseas partner, the American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee (JDC), and to other nonprofit organizations to purchase warm blankets and clothing, portable heaters, cooking stoves, non-perishable foods, flashlights and other emergency items. The recent allocation also includes a package to support the high costs of Russian aliyah (immigration) to Israel. Since the beginning of the war, 52,500 new immigrants have arrived in Israel from Russia, Ukraine and Belarus with the aid of Federation overseas partner The Jewish Agency for Israel. JFNA has raised a collective $78 million for Ukraine aid since the start of the war. To donate to our ongoing Ukraine Emergency Fund, please click here.
