Community Security

James Somohano
James Somohano has served in the Miami-Dade law enforcement community for over 36 years, including command-level and policy-making level positions. He is currently Federation’s Director of Community Security, responsible for the safety and security readiness of synagogues and temples, Jewish day schools and Jewish community centers across Miami-Dade County. James provides critical life-saving training to these entities and also serves as the principle liaison to both local and federal law enforcement.


Cosimo Castronovo
Cosimo Castronovo is a retired Captain with the City of Aventura Police Department who has had a highly distinguished career in law enforcement. With such a broad background in police operations, including leadership of specialized units, training, and community engagement, he is a wealth of knowledge in law enforcement strategy, operations and Internal Affairs. His experience as a S.W.A.T. Team Leader and his graduation from the FBI National Academy further highlight his expertise. Cosimo is contributing to the next generation of law enforcement professionals as an adjunct professor for the Florida International University.
