An Important Message to the Community from the Greater Miami Jewish Federation

As we have watched events unfold around the world over the last several weeks and now with the increasing concern regarding the COVID-19 in the United States and within our own communities, we are feeling the uncertainty and anxiety of the moment. Thankfully, we belong to a greater community that cares for one another.

In an abundance of caution, to protect individual health, help stem the spread of this virus and in accordance with CDC guidelines, the Greater Miami Jewish Federation headquarters as well as its branch offices in North Dade and South Dade, will be temporarily closed as of Monday, March 16. All Federation staff will be working remotely and are fully accessible to the community by phone, email and through the Federation main number 305.576.4000. You may also email info@JewishMiami.org to reach Federation. In addition, we will be using our website JewishMiami.org and other digital publications to share updates on social services, community resources and other relevant information. We have also made the decision to postpone or cancel all in-person events and committee meetings through Friday, May 1. Efforts are already underway to reschedule as many of our major programs as possible.

The health and safety of our leadership, volunteers, staff and all our constituents remain our priority during the COVID-19 pandemic and as we pursue our mission, today and in the longer term. Federation’s Senior Management Team continues to meet daily to address all emerging issues.

Our Community Planning Department is working with local agencies, partners and synagogues to develop alternative plans to ensure that the most vital services remain operational. Our desire is to minimize disruptions and to safeguard our most vulnerable populations as they continue to receive urgent services, including meal deliveries for isolated seniors, emergency counseling across all populations during this time of increasing uncertainty and assistance for those facing serious unforeseen financial crises.

If you or someone you know is in need of emergency support, please call the Jewish community’s confidential helpline at 305.576.6550 for guidance. Operated by Federation partner agency, Jewish Community Services of South Florida, the helpline is open 24/7 every day of the year.

Sustaining and strengthening Federation’s network of services in our local community is essential. These programs are in place 365 days a year in ordinary and extraordinary times. We thank all those who have supported the Annual Greater Miami Jewish Federation/ UJA Campaign throughout the years and have demonstrated faith in our life-saving and holy work that makes this all possible. We all rely on these programs and services; they have proven themselves during previous times of crisis and are a critical reminder that we stand together always for the greater good.

We are committed to monitoring the situation, making decisions based on the most current public health recommendations and keeping you informed. Our goal is to continue to serve the community in every way possible. We extend our prayers for those individuals around the world affected by the spread of COVID-19 and to the families who have lost loved ones.

We wish you a peaceful and restful Shabbat. Stay safe and healthy.
