News From the Greater Miami Jewish Federation

The words of Theodor Herzl, “If you will it, it is no dream,” came to life during the much-awaited Greater Miami Jewish Federation Israel 75 Miami Mega Mission, which ended yesterday.

Federation initiative BeWell Miami is offering two unique parent workshops during Mental Health Awareness month, recognized annually during the month of May, to spread awareness and create conversations around this critical topic.

Celebrate Israel 75 in Miami! A number of Federation partners are commemorating the 75th anniversary of the founding of the State of Israel with celebrations across Miami-Dade County.

Prior to the start of the Israel 75 Miami Mega Mission, nearly 200 Miamians traveled to Poland to explore life before, during and after World War II and to bear witness to the atrocities of the Holocaust.

Last night, more than 800 Miamians kicked off the Greater Miami Jewish Federation Israel 75 Miami Mega Mission with a spectacular opening event at the iconic Safra Square in Jerusalem, including greetings by Israeli President Isaac Herzog.

In just a few days, over 800 Miamians will assemble for our Greater Miami Jewish Federation Israel 75 Miami Mega Mission in Jerusalem, including 185 who will first travel to Poland to take part in the March of the Living.

Federation is partnering with local Jewish organizations to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the founding of the State of Israel with festivities across Miami-Dade County. To mark this milestone Yom Ha’Atzmaut, or Israel Independence Day, which falls on April 26, community events will take place April 25-30 — and everyone is invited!

Federation’s Jewish Community Relations Council is proud to partner with the Foundation to Combat Antisemitism (FCAS) on #StandUpToJewishHate.

Just before the start of Passover, 15 South Florida rabbis traveled with the Hebrew Immigrant Aid Society (HIAS) to the Mexican border, between San Diego and Tijuana, as part of a mission organized by the Rabbinical Association of Greater Miami.

There is still time to apply for the One Happy Camper incentive grants for Jewish overnight summer camp. Jewish overnight camp is one of the most meaningful and formative experiences for a child to help them create a strong and positive Jewish identity.

The Miami Jewish Abilities Alliance (MJAA), a Federation program, is recruiting volunteers for a Passover Special Mitzvah Seder, an event designed specifically for Jewish adults with developmental or physical challenges organized by Beth Torah Benny Rok Campus.

Women’s Amutot Initiative recipient WePower is training women in Israel to increase the number of women in politics. Funded by the Annual Greater Miami Jewish Federation/UJA Campaign, the Women’s Amutot Initiative allocates grants to Israeli organizations that empower women to effect change in Israeli society through social, economic, religious and political equality.

Earlier this month, 10 leaders from Miami joined with 175 of their peers for the Jewish Federations of North America Young Leadership Cabinet Study Mission to Estonia, Latvia and Hungary – the largest mission of its kind in history.
