2023 Jewish Overnight Summer Camp Scholarships
Posted by Noa Waks Rudman on 12/22/2022 @ 10:10 AM
Apply now for Federation’s overnight camp financial aid programs — One Happy Camper and Jewish Overnight Summer Camp Scholarships — to give your child a Jewish summer experience that’s both unforgettable and more affordable.
Recognizing that Jewish overnight camp is one of the most meaningful experiences a child can have in creating a strong and positive Jewish identity, Federation offers these two options to help offset the cost of attendance for Miami-Dade County residents. Partnering with One Happy Camper, a program of the Foundation for Jewish Camps, and Jewish overnight camps across North America, Federation provides need-blind grants of up to $1,000 to families with first-time campers who attend public school or non-Jewish private school. If you’re interested, apply early as a limited number of grants are available. Federation is also accepting applications for our 2023 Jewish Overnight Summer Camp Scholarships for children ages 8-17 who attend public school, private school and Jewish day school or yeshiva and can demonstrate financial need. The deadline to apply is Tuesday, January 31, 2023. Click here to learn more and apply for either opportunity.
Media Coverage of News Conference to Shine a Light on Rising Antisemitism
Posted by Noa Waks Rudman on 12/22/2022 @ 09:41 AM
This past Tuesday, on the second day of Chanukah, approximately 15 Miami-area mayors and Jewish community leaders condemned antisemitism and hate in all its forms at the Federation-organized Mayors' Press Conference Against Antisemitism.
In addition to speaking out against the rising tide of anti-Jewish hatred, many offered their support of the widely accepted International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA) definition of antisemitism, As the American Jewish Committee's (AJC) Brian Siegal noted, "You can't combat what you don't define." Many leaders also committed to highlighting the positive contributions of Jewish people to the US during Jewish American Heritage Month, which occurs in May. Representation from Federation included Chair of the Board Ariel Bentata, Jewish Community Relations Council Chair Moj Khaghan Danial and President and CEO Jacob Solomon. Members of the ADL, AJC and the Consul General of Israel in Miami were also present. The lineup of mayors was headlined by Mayor Daniella Levine Cava, the first Jewish woman to lead Miami-Dade County. Click here to view media coverage from the press conference.

Gift of Israel
Posted by Noa Waks Rudman on 12/07/2022 @ 01:33 PM
At Chanukah, a time of miracles, give the Gift of Israel, a Federation savings plan that allows you to invest in a child’s future Israel experience and receive matching funds from Federation and local participating synagogues.
When you register for this unique program, your family’s annual contributions of $100 will be matched by Federation and select local synagogues to accrue a significant portion of the cost for any number of peer-based Jewish educational programs in Israel. If you’re not a member of a participating synagogue, you can still receive an annual $100 matching contribution from Federation. Families that enroll beginning in kindergarten can save as much as $3,000, plus interest! Accumulated funds may be accessed for Israel programs from eighth grade until age 26. Friends and relatives may also contribute to your child’s Gift of Israel account in honor of B’nai Mitzvah, graduation and other celebrations. Gift of Israel parents Jennie and Jeffrey Bernstein say, “By the time [our children] were ready to go on their high school program, the money made a huge dent in what would otherwise have been an expensive summer.” Click here to learn more or enroll in the Gift of Israel Savings Plan.
BeWell Youth Mental Health Initiative
Posted by Noa Waks Rudman on 12/07/2022 @ 01:30 PM
At the end of November, Federation officially launched our BeWell Youth Mental Health Initiative, following nearly a year of close collaboration with our subsidiary agency the Center for the Advancement of Jewish Education (CAJE) and our primary human services partner Jewish Community Services of South Florida (JCS).
Nearly 60 people representing 23 local organizations attended the kickoff, where the group worked together to address the youth mental health crisis. Under the leadership of Elise Scheck Bonwitt, as well as the critical involvement of Dr. Edith Shiro and Carly Orshan, the group unveiled the results of a Federation-commissioned youth mental health survey and came up with a number of recommendations our community can implement to address this national epidemic. We also unveiled a new Youth Mental Health helpline — available by phone or text message — that will be advertised in private areas (such as bathroom stalls) at all 10 Federation-funded Jewish day schools, along with synagogues, JCCs and other places frequented by teens and young adults. Together, we look forward to providing our community’s youth, their parents and professionals who work with them, the tools and resources to support their mental well-being.
