Event Details

Description

Art Basel draws connoisseurs, collectors and creative professionals from around the world to our shores for the first days of December each year. But Miami Art Week, this year December 2 to 8, extends far beyond the Miami Beach Convention Center, encompassing many fairs, shows, installations, pop-up venues and cultural happenings throughout South Florida. Margery Gordon will show you how to make sense of it all, and make the most of this opportunity to view contemporary and modern art and design in time to make a plan that focuses on your interests. Experience Miami Art Week like a savvy insider with expert tips to distinguish among some 20 fairs, interact with galleries, and start your own collection. This illustrated talk covers the evolution and organization of Art Basel and Miami’s most influential fairs, plus Gordon’s recommendations for special events and newsworthy updates.
As the Founding Director of Arts Encounters, Margery Gordon guides tours of art fairs, exhibitions and cultural destinations. The Miami-based educator, journalist and art critic also advises organizations and creative professionals on programming and outreach. Gordon has been writing about Art Basel since it branched out to Miami Beach in 2001, amid reporting for magazines and websites on art and design from regional communities to global markets.
We will break for refreshments midway, and there will be time for Q&A
