Event Details
Description
Join us for a special Holocaust education program in Spanish. Judy Rodan was born in Berehovo, Czechoslovakia, and at six years old, she and her family were deported to Auschwitz in May 1944. She is the sole survivor of her family, having been rescued by a Christian woman who hid her in a convent in Budapest until the war's end.
Judy is regarded as the only child survivor from her hometown of 11,000. After liberation in 1946, her aunt and uncle took her from the convent, and they emigrated to Venezuela in 1947. In 1952, Judy moved to the U.S. to live with another aunt in Detroit before relocating to New York and later returning to Caracas, where she met her husband. In 2000, her children moved to the U.S., and in 2017, she decided to stay after visiting for Passover due to worsening conditions in Venezuela. She remains in the U.S. as an American citizen.
